The area of Beigua represents, with the prestigious identification of geological heritage protected by UNESCO, the most vast
protected natural area of Liguria.
In 2005 the Beigua Park has been recognized as international “Geopark” in the area of interest of the European Geoparks Network
and of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
Beigua Geopark – within it is included the whole surface classified as “Parco naturale regionale del Beigua” – cover a whole
extension of 39.230 hectares, involving the Comuni (municipalities) of Arenzano, Campo Ligure, Cogoleto, Genova, Masone,
Rossiglione, Sassello, Stella, Tiglieto e Varazze.
Calaloca is proudly part of Geopark, not only because the resort is positioned within the park, but also because, on a stone
promontory which rushes into the sea, exactly beside our seaside, it is possible to observe and visit (running down
our long stairs of access from Aurelia route) an unique evidence of how sea level was at a height of + 7 meters asl.
around 125.000 years ago: the cavern, named «Mizar», sculpted by sea erosion on the hard stone serpentinite which constitutes
the entire bay.
